After the governor of California issued a stay at home order, it only seemed like a matter of time before the rest of the United States followed suit. Now millions of California residents, and Americans, are doing the right thing and staying safe at home. It’s important to remember that you’re not stuck at home, you’re safe at home. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t improve your indoor comfort and make your home a better place to spend your day.
According to previous research done by the EPA, the average American already spent nearly 90% of their day indoors. Many respondents inaccurately felt that they spent more time outdoors. However, since work and sleep take up the majority of a day, most people work indoors, and there’s been a recent shift towards working from home and minimizing unnecessary trips out of the house, people are spending quite a bit of time indoors.
So, in an effort to help you stay safe, Howard’s has compiled a list of essential (and non-essential) products for indoor comfort. We’ll also include some tips to help you enjoy your home a little more.
Air quality is something we should all be concerned about, especially those with allergies. If you find your allergies flaring up more than usual now that you’re staying at home, you really need to think about a way to sanitize your stuffy air and improve your indoor comfort.
It’s advised to open your windows as a means of letting in fresh air and sunlight, but not all of us have that luxury. An air purifier can help save your nose from those allergens floating about the house, and just bring an overall freshness to the home.
We love the LG PuriCare 360 Air Purifier. This tower offers an all-around clean air solution for your home or apartment. It can tackle a massive amount of space and circulate clean air throughout the home. Most importantly, it features a true HEPA filter that removes dust, odors, and 90% of airborne allergens. Smaller air purifiers are great for office spaces or bedrooms, but we love the idea of a central unit that provides indoor comfort to high traffic areas like the kitchen and living room.
You’ll spend most of your life sleeping. It’s a fact: 33 years of your life will be spent in bed. Maybe now that your morning commute has been cut down to seconds as opposed to the average 26.9 minutes, you’ve been spending a little (or a lot of) extra time relaxing in bed. You might be discovering your mattress isn’t the greatest. Worse yet, you could be experiencing back pain that your mattress only seems to make worse.
This might be a good time to think about upgrading your mattress as a means of more restful sleep and a new element of indoor comfort you’ll be sure to take advantage of every single day. If you’re having trouble finding a place to begin, our Mattress Buying Guide can be a real help.
It’s also good to keep an eye on mattress brands having sales during this time, especially if you want to upgrade your indoor comfort at a discounted price. Look at this as not only a chance to catch up on all the sleep you’ve been missing, but get a better quality sleep while you’re at it.
If your refrigerator struggled to keep food fresh before, you really don’t want to keep depending on it now that you’re more dependent than ever. Eating at home is healthier, and is now a bigger necessity than before. In order to keep up your levels of indoor comfort and ensure you have fresh food, your fridge needs to do its job well.
If you think it’s time to replace your old fridge, we have two refrigerator recommendations that’ll hold plenty of food, keep everything cool, and won’t break the bank.
Having clean and sanitary clothes and home goods is a necessity. It may be a good practice to separate all the clothes used for grocery outings and other trips outside the home and washing them separately and as quickly as possible. Having a top-notch washer and dryer is going to be a huge mental boost and help improve your indoor comfort with a fresh set of clothes, even if you’re staying in your PJs all day.
When looking for a new washer or dryer, switch to products with an Energy Star label. These models are certified to be more efficient and will save you money.
Selecting a laundry pair will make it easier to synchronize your laundry room and open up more rebates and deals. Some front load laundry pairs even let you add clothes midway through the wash cycle, so you don't have to worry about that extra sock being left behind. And nothing beats the fresh linen scent as a mood and indoor comfort booster.
Tip: If you’re noticing your utilities bill skyrocketing right now, it’s a good time to think of ways to save on water and power. Here are some tips for an eco-friendly laundry room that can save you money on your bills while you save the environment. Consider a front-load laundry pair for extra water savings.
One small upside to all this is that you don’t have to feel guilty for wanting to stay at home and enjoy the indoor comforts of your couch and TV while you binge Netflix. Everyone else is doing it! But not everyone is enjoying it on a good television.
We understand it’s not an essential for improving your indoor comfort, but it also doesn’t hurt to be nice to yourself from time to time. So, if you’ve been wanting to make the jump to 4K, now’s as good a time as ever. You’ll be able to enjoy the top-notch picture quality and a television size you’ve been really wanting. Whether you’re catching up on all your shows and movies or playing video games, you’ll be happy you made the leap to ultra-HD displays. While you’re at it, you might want to upgrade your sound quality too!
